Monitoring and Treatment Approach for Bipolar Disorder

Initial Assessment and Treatment Initiation

  • The American College of Physicians, as reported in the Annals of Internal Medicine, recommends determining if the current episode is depressive and evaluating for any contraindications to lurasidone during the initial assessment 1
  • Monitoring should begin 1-2 weeks after initiation of therapy, including regular assessment of depressive symptoms and monitoring for side effects, particularly akathisia and somnolence, as suggested by the Annals of Internal Medicine 1

Dose Adjustment and Maintenance

  • After 1-2 weeks, assess response and tolerability, then adjust the dose as needed, according to the Annals of Internal Medicine 1
