Augmentin Dosage and Management for Paronychia

Dosing Recommendations

  • For mild to moderate paronychia in adults, the American College of Physicians recommends Augmentin (amoxicillin-clavulanate) at a dose of 500 mg/125 mg every 12 hours, with a strength of evidence based on clinical guidelines 1

Important Considerations

  • Bacterial cultures should be considered before starting antibiotics, especially in severe cases or treatment failures, as recommended by the Infectious Diseases Society of America 2, 1
  • Secondary fungal infections may occur in up to 25% of paronychia cases and may require antifungal therapy if not responding to antibiotics, according to the American Academy of Dermatology 1
