Onset of Action of Mirabegron

Efficacy Parameters

  • The European Association of Urology recommends that the dose of mirabegron may be increased from 25 mg to 50 mg after 4 to 8 weeks if the initial response is insufficient, in patients with overactive bladder symptoms 1

Considerations for Clinical Practice

  • It is essential to monitor blood pressure periodically, especially in hypertensive patients, as mirabegron may cause increases in blood pressure, according to the European Urology guidelines 1
  • Unlike antimuscarinics, mirabegron does not produce significant anticholinergic effects such as dry mouth, resulting in better tolerability from the start of treatment, as noted in clinical guidelines 2

Patient Management

  • The post-void residual volume should be monitored in men with lower urinary tract symptoms, particularly if they are on combination therapy, although mirabegron does not significantly affect urodynamic parameters of emptying, as recommended by the European Urology and Praxis Medical Insights guidelines 1, 3
