Quetiapine Uptitration and Monitoring

Monitoring and Administration

  • The American College of Physicians recommends monitoring for orthostatic hypotension, especially during initial dose titration 1
  • Exercise caution with concomitant CNS depressants due to additive effects on psychomotor performance, as advised by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network 1
  • Administer quetiapine on an empty stomach to maximize effectiveness, according to Praxis Medical Insights 1
  • Avoid rapid dose decrease or abrupt discontinuation which can produce withdrawal symptoms, as warned by Praxis Medical Insights 1

Special Considerations

  • For delirium management, quetiapine can be initiated at 25-50 mg twice daily, as suggested by the Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network 2
  • Alternative dosing for severe delirium is 50-100 mg PO/SL twice daily, according to the Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network 2
