Postoperative Hormonal Suppression for Endometrioma

  • The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends at least 3 months of GnRH agonist therapy for pain relief, with add-back therapy to reduce bone mineral loss without compromising efficacy 2
  • Progestins, such as oral medroxyprogesterone acetate or megestrol acetate, may be used as alternative agents for reducing endometrioma recurrence and pain symptoms 1

Special Populations

  • For women not desiring immediate pregnancy, hormonal suppression with levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) or progestins, such as medroxyprogesterone acetate, may be beneficial in reducing endometrioma recurrence and pain symptoms 1
