Corticosteroid‑Related Safety Considerations for Cendo Xitrol

Intraocular Pressure Risks

  • Elevated intra‑ocular pressure may develop when the corticosteroid‑containing formulation is used for more than 2 weeks; clinicians should be vigilant for this adverse effect. 1

Cataract Risk

  • Prolonged exposure to the corticosteroid component of Cendo Xitrol has been linked to the development of cataracts. 3
  • To avoid serious ocular complications, limit the use of corticosteroid‑containing drops to the shortest effective course, ideally no longer than 8 weeks. 1

Contraindication in Herpes Simplex Keratitis

  • Cendo Xitrol should not be used in cases of herpes simplex keratitis because corticosteroids can exacerbate HSV infection. 3

Use in Patients with Ocular Hypertension or Glaucoma

  • Exercise caution when prescribing to individuals with a history of ocular hypertension or glaucoma; if therapy extends beyond 2 weeks, intra‑ocular pressure should be monitored regularly. 1
