Differentiating Abdominal Wall Pain from Other Pathologies

Gastric Masses

  • Gastric neoplasms do not manifest as palpable cord‑like thickenings of the abdominal wall; therefore, when a cord‑like mass is detected on physical examination, imaging for gastric pathology is unnecessary. 1

Complicated Abdominal Wall Hernias

  • Complicated abdominal wall hernias are characterized by clinical signs of obstruction or strangulation rather than isolated, rope‑like thickening, distinguishing them from chronic abdominal wall pain. 2
