Switching from Strattera to Qelbree

Initial Dosing and Titration

  • The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends starting viloxazine ER at 200mg once daily after a washout period, with flexible titration up to 600mg daily based on response and tolerability 1, 2
  • The FDA-approved starting dose for adults is 200mg once daily, which can be taken as a single daily dose 1, 2
  • Increase by 200mg increments at weekly intervals based on response and tolerability, with a maximum daily dose of 600mg 1, 2

Monitoring and Dose Adjustments

  • Monitor blood pressure and heart rate during titration 4
  • If inadequate response at 200mg after 1 week, increase to 400mg, and further increases to 600mg can be made at weekly intervals if needed 1, 2
  • If side effects occur, consider maintaining current dose or reducing by 200mg 1, 2

Contraindications and Cautions

  • There is no published safety data for viloxazine in pregnancy or breastfeeding, and limited data exists on efficacy and tolerability in adults 1, 2
  • Alternative agents may be preferred in pregnancy or breastfeeding contexts 1, 2
