Measles Protection After MMR Vaccination

  • Approximately 5% of vaccinated persons develop a transient measles-like rash 7-10 days after vaccination, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 1, 2, 3

Special Populations

  • Adults who received inadequate childhood vaccination or were vaccinated before 12 months of age may have suboptimal protection, as reported by the CDC 4
  • Those who received killed measles vaccine require revaccination with two doses of live MMR vaccine, as recommended by the CDC 4, 3

Vaccine Effectiveness and Risks

  • The benefits of vaccination far outweigh the minimal risk of vaccine failure, with natural measles infection carrying substantially higher risks of serious complications, including encephalopathy, as stated by the CDC 5
