Bromhexine Syrup Dosage and Administration for Pediatric Respiratory Conditions

Dosing and Treatment Duration

  • Treatment duration for respiratory conditions in children is usually 7-10 days, similar to other respiratory medications in children 1
  • The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends monitoring for improvement in respiratory symptoms, particularly the ability to cough up mucus more easily, and discontinuing treatment if symptoms worsen or do not improve within 48-72 hours 1
  • Children with underlying respiratory conditions may require closer monitoring during treatment, as recommended by the Infectious Diseases Society of America 1

Safety and Monitoring

  • Bromhexine should not replace appropriate antibiotic therapy if a bacterial infection is present, as stated by the Infectious Diseases Society of America 1
