Upper Lid Blepharoplasty Medical Necessity Criteria
Clinical Findings and Complications
- Constricted superior visual fields prior to taping, with 56% improvement with taping, and clinical findings of redundant eyelid skin obscuring crease and touching lashes, pronounced lateral hooding and excessive medial fat pad prolapse, suggest potential functional impairment 1
- New-onset diplopia can occur after upper lid blepharoplasty, sometimes associated with trochlear damage 1
- Scarring and hemorrhage in adjacent tissue or fat adherence have been implicated in post-blepharoplasty complications 1
- A history of blepharoplasty has been associated with sagging eye syndrome in some cases 2
