Sertraline Dosage and Tolerability

Introduction to Sertraline

  • The American Academy of Family Physicians notes that sertraline has minimal inhibitory effects on major cytochrome P450 enzymes and fewer drug-drug interactions compared to other SSRIs, making it a relatively safe option 1
  • Common side effects of sertraline include sweating, tremors, nervousness, insomnia or somnolence, dizziness, and various gastrointestinal and sexual disturbances, as reported by the American Academy of Family Physicians 1

Special Considerations

  • When treating depression in patients with Alzheimer's disease, the maximum recommended dose of sertraline remains 200 mg per day, according to the American Academy of Family Physicians 2
