Cefdinir Dosing and Treatment Guidelines for Community-Acquired Pneumonia

Adult and Pediatric Dosing Recommendations

  • Treatment duration should generally not exceed 8 days in a responding patient, according to lower respiratory tract infection guidelines 1
  • For children 1-9 years old, cefdinir is dosed at 5 mg/kg/day once daily, not to exceed 150 mg, and for children ≥10 years old, 200 mg/day as single daily dose or in 2 doses 2

Severe Community-Acquired Pneumonia Treatment

  • For severe community-acquired pneumonia requiring hospitalization, parenteral therapy with β-lactam plus macrolide is generally recommended rather than oral cephalosporins like cefdinir 1
