Fenofibrate Dosage and Monitoring

Special Considerations

  • The American Journal of Kidney Diseases recommends adjusting fenofibrate dosage in patients with renal impairment, with recommendations to avoid its use entirely in advanced kidney disease (CKD stages 4-5) 1, 2
  • For patients with CKD stage 3, the dose should be reduced to 48 mg compared to the standard 96 mg dose used in patients with normal kidney function 1, 2

Monitoring Recommendations

  • The American College of Cardiology recommends regular monitoring of renal function: before treatment initiation, within 3 months after starting, and every 6 months thereafter 3
  • The American College of Cardiology also recommends monitoring liver function tests as clinically indicated 3
