Treatment Algorithm for Uncontrolled Hypertension on Amlodipine

• Reassess blood pressure within 2-4 weeks after increasing the amlodipine dose, with a target blood pressure of <130/80 mmHg, as recommended by the International Society of Hypertension guidelines 1, 2
• Aim to achieve target blood pressure within 3 months of treatment modification, according to the International Society of Hypertension guidelines 1
• If blood pressure remains uncontrolled after 4-6 weeks on amlodipine 10 mg, add a second agent, such as an ACE inhibitor or ARB for non-black patients, or a thiazide/thiazide-like diuretic for black patients, as recommended by the International Society of Hypertension guidelines 1, 2, 3
• Before increasing the dose, verify medication adherence and proper blood pressure measurement technique, as recommended by the International Society of Hypertension guidelines 2, 3
