Doxycycline Dosing in Dialysis Patients

Administration Considerations

  • On dialysis days, administer the medication after the dialysis session to prevent any potential drug removal during the procedure 1

Comparison with Other Antibiotics

  • Unlike doxycycline, many other antibiotics require significant dose adjustments in renal impairment, such as Clarithromycin, which should be reduced by half if creatinine clearance <30 mL/min, and Ciprofloxacin, which requires dose adjustment based on creatinine clearance, with 250-500 mg every 18 hours if CrCl <30 mL/min 2
  • Amoxicillin-clavulanate requires dose adjustment in severe renal impairment, according to the Praxis Medical Insights guidelines 1
