Imaging Modalities and Protocols

• Transvaginal ultrasound combined with transabdominal approach is the most useful modality for evaluation, as recommended by the American College of Radiology, allowing sufficient time to determine if the cyst is resolving or persisting 1
• Color or power Doppler should be included in ultrasound examinations to evaluate vascularity of any developing solid components, according to the American College of Radiology 1
• For indeterminate lesions that persist but remain stable in size and appearance, MRI may be appropriate to better characterize the cyst, as suggested by the American College of Radiology 1
• MRI has superior ability to confirm the presence of internal enhancing soft tissue components compared to ultrasound, as noted by the American College of Radiology 1
• If the cyst shows concerning features, consider MRI pelvis with contrast for better characterization, as recommended by the American College of Radiology 1
