Initial Treatment for Bile Reflux Gastritis

Treatment Algorithm

  • The American College of Gastroenterology recommends the initial treatment for bile reflux gastritis to be proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), with high-potency PPIs such as esomeprazole or rabeprazole at a dose of 20-40 mg twice daily being the most effective option 1
  • High-potency PPIs, such as esomeprazole or rabeprazole, have superior efficacy compared to other PPIs, with 40 mg pantoprazole equals only 9 mg omeprazole in potency, as recommended by the American Gastroenterological Association 1
