Monitoring and Special Considerations

• The American Gastroenterological Association recommends periodic monitoring of renal function for all patients on mesalamine therapy, especially in patients with pre-existing kidney disease 1
• Apriso, a delayed and extended-release formulation of mesalamine, delivers mesalamine to the mid-ileum and colon and is specifically approved for maintenance therapy of ulcerative colitis 2
• Periodic monitoring of liver function tests is recommended, especially if abnormalities are detected, to avoid progression to chronic hepatitis and liver fibrosis 1
