Doxycycline Dosing for Tick-Borne Infections

Infection-Specific Dosing

  • For Human Granulocytic Anaplasmosis (HGA), the recommended dose is 100 mg twice daily (oral or IV) for 10 days, and treatment should not be delayed pending laboratory confirmation if clinical suspicion is high, as stated by the Infectious Diseases Society of America 1, 2
  • Clinical improvement is expected within 24-48 hours for HGA, and lack of response warrants reevaluation, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2
  • The duration of therapy for HGA is 10 days, as recommended by the National Institutes of Health 1, 2
  • Failing to reassess patients who don't respond within 24-48 hours of initiating therapy for tick-borne illnesses, such as HGA, is a common pitfall to avoid, as advised by the Infectious Diseases Society of America 2
