Management of Chorioamnionitis

Neonatal Management

  • Well-appearing newborns whose mothers had suspected chorioamnionitis should undergo a limited evaluation, including a blood culture and a CBC with white blood cell differential and platelet count, and receive antibiotic therapy pending culture results, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, based on guidelines from the MMWR Recommendations and Reports 1
  • The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that consultation with obstetric providers to assess whether chorioamnionitis was suspected is important to determine appropriate neonatal management, with evidence supporting this approach found in Pediatrics 2
