Hair Loss Associated with Diane-35

Mechanisms and Risk Factors

  • Hormonal changes from starting or stopping hormonal medications like Diane-35 can trigger telogen effluvium, a temporary diffuse hair shedding that typically begins 1-3 months after starting the medication, and individual sensitivity to these changes may also play a role 1
  • Those with pre-existing hair loss conditions may notice changes more readily when taking Diane-35 1

Management and Treatment

  • If hair loss occurs while taking Diane-35, continuing treatment with monitoring may be appropriate, as hair loss is often temporary and resolves after 3-6 months as the body adjusts to the medication 1
  • For persistent hair loss, topical treatments like minoxidil might be considered as adjunctive therapy 2
