Treatment Approach

• The American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases suggests starting baclofen at 10 mg/day with weekly increases of 10 mg/day up to 30 mg/day for muscle cramps in cirrhotic patients, which may be applicable to hiccup treatment 1
• The European Association for the Study of the Liver recommends exercising particular caution in patients with liver disease when using baclofen, due to the risk of impaired mentation in patients with advanced liver disease or hepatic encephalopathy 2
