Treatment of Fungal Diaper Rash

Introduction to Treatment

  • Topical antifungal agents are the first-line treatment for fungal diaper rash in infants, with nystatin or clotrimazole being the preferred options, as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics 1

Treatment Duration and Follow-up

  • Continue treatment for at least one week after clinical resolution to ensure complete mycological cure, with a treatment duration of at least 7-14 days 2
  • Complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve quickly, to prevent recurrence and ensure complete cure 2

Prevention of Recurrence and Spread

  • Wash hands thoroughly after applying medication to prevent the spread of infection 2
  • Wash clothing, bedding, and towels in hot water to prevent the spread of fungal spores 2
  • Check family members for signs of infection and treat if necessary to prevent the spread of infection 2
  • Identify and treat the source of infection to prevent recurrence, such as treating other affected family members 2
