COPD Management with Yupelri

Patient Selection and Therapy Initiation

  • The American College of Physicians recommends verifying proper nebulizer technique at prescription and checking at every follow-up visit to ensure effective therapy with Yupelri 1
  • Patients on triple therapy, such as Trelegy containing umeclidinium/vilanterol/fluticasone, should not add Yupelri as the existing LAMA provides adequate coverage, according to the American Thoracic Society 1

Combination Therapy and Drug Interactions

  • The Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease suggests that Yupelri can be combined with long-acting beta-agonists (LABAs) or LABA/ICS combinations for enhanced symptom control in patients with COPD 2
  • The European Respiratory Society recommends avoiding coadministration of Yupelri with OATP1B1 and OATP1B3 inhibitors, such as rifampicin and cyclosporine, as they increase active metabolite exposure 1

Monitoring and Safety Precautions

  • The American College of Chest Physicians advises monitoring for anticholinergic side effects, such as dry mouth, urinary retention, constipation, and blurred vision, in patients taking Yupelri 1
  • The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence recommends avoiding beta-blocking agents, including ophthalmic preparations, in all COPD patients on bronchodilator therapy, including those taking Yupelri 1, 4
