Dosing and Safety Considerations for Celebrex

Special Populations

  • Elderly patients should use Celebrex with caution as the risk of GI bleeding increases linearly at approximately 4% per year of advancing age 1
  • Patients with a history of GI bleeding are at higher risk and should consider alternative treatments or additional gastroprotective measures 2
  • Patients with cardiovascular risk factors should use Celebrex with caution and at the lowest effective dose 1

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

  • Prolonged use of Celebrex without reassessment is not recommended, and regular evaluation of continued need and effectiveness is essential 3
  • Combining Celebrex with other NSAIDs increases the risk of adverse effects 1
  • Ignoring early signs of adverse effects, such as GI discomfort which occurs in 10-20% of patients taking NSAIDs, is not recommended 2
