Immobilization of Coronoid Process Fractures

Initial Management and Imaging

  • The American College of Radiology recommends CT imaging when radiographs are normal or indeterminate but clinical suspicion remains high, as it can identify occult fractures and clarify fracture morphology 1, 2

Rehabilitation and Follow-up

  • The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons suggests radiographic follow-up at approximately 3 weeks and at cessation of immobilization 3
  • There is insufficient evidence to recommend for or against immobilizing the elbow to prevent forearm rotation, according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons 3, 4
