Combined Oral Contraceptive Dosing Regimens

Standard 28‑Day Regimens

  • A daily oral tablet taken at the same time each day, typically containing 30–35 µg ethinyl estradiol combined with levonorgestrel (or norgestimate) for 21–24 consecutive days followed by 4–7 hormone‑free or placebo days, is the conventional dosing schedule for combined oral contraceptives in the general population. 1

  • Monophasic combined oral contraceptive pills are recommended as the initial hormonal therapy for adolescent patients, providing a consistent hormone dose each day to improve cycle control and adherence. 2
