Maximum Daily Dose of Magnesium Bisglycinate for Children

Dosing Guidelines

  • The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends a standard supplementation dose of approximately 5-6 mg/kg/day of elemental magnesium for children 1

Important Considerations for Magnesium Bisglycinate

  • The maximum daily dose of magnesium bisglycinate for a 7-year-old child should not exceed approximately 110-130 mg of elemental magnesium per day to minimize gastrointestinal side effects 2

Safety Monitoring

  • Gastrointestinal effects, such as diarrhea and abdominal cramping, are the primary dose-limiting factor for magnesium bisglycinate supplementation in children 2
  • Renal function assessment is essential before initiating magnesium bisglycinate supplementation, as magnesium is primarily renally excreted 2

Contraindications

  • Magnesium bisglycinate supplementation is contraindicated in children with severe renal impairment, complete heart block or severe cardiac conduction abnormalities, and active gastrointestinal obstruction 2
