Guideline Recommendations

• The American Academy of Dermatology guidelines (2009) and the joint AAD-National Psoriasis Foundation guidelines (2020) do not mention thrombotic complications as a recognized adverse effect of methotrexate in patients with dermatological conditions 1, 2, 3, 4
• The American College of Rheumatology 2021 guidelines for rheumatoid arthritis treatment do not identify thromboembolism as a recognized adverse effect of methotrexate in patients with rheumatoid arthritis 5, 6

Adverse Event Profile

• Methotrexate's adverse event profile includes hepatotoxicity, myelosuppression (thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, pancytopenia), pneumonitis, mucositis, and gastrointestinal toxicity, but does not include thrombotic events 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
