  • Ursodiol is widely used in various hepatobiliary disorders, including primary biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis, with a well-established safety record [@17@, @18@, 1]

Therapeutic Use and Risk Factors

  • High-dose ursodiol treatment (>20 mg/kg/day) has been associated with worse outcomes in primary sclerosing cholangitis and should be avoided 2
  • The European Association for the Study of the Liver suggests that patients with anatomical abnormalities of the biliary tract may be at higher risk for developing pancreatitis with ursodiol therapy, although this is rare 1
