Administration of Toradol and Kenalog
Toradol Administration
- The American Academy of Family Physicians recommends that the maximum duration of Toradol treatment should not exceed 5 days, due to cumulative risks of gastrointestinal bleeding, renal impairment, and operative site bleeding that increase substantially with prolonged therapy 1
Kenalog Administration
- The American Academy of Dermatology recommends that triamcinolone acetonide can be administered to individual inflammatory acne nodules as needed, with most nodules flattening within 48-72 hours 2
- For nodular acne, the American Academy of Dermatology suggests injecting triamcinolone acetonide 10 mg/mL directly into inflammatory nodules, with response typically occurring within 48-72 hours 2
- The American Academy of Dermatology advises that there is no specific maximum frequency stated in guidelines for intralesional corticosteroid injections, but repeated injections can suppress the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, and recommends injecting individual lesions as they appear rather than on a fixed schedule 2
- The American Academy of Dermatology warns that local overdose of triamcinolone acetonide can cause permanent tissue atrophy, pigmentary changes, and telangiectasias, and recommends limiting the number of simultaneous injection sites to minimize systemic absorption 2
- The American Academy of Dermatology lists contraindications to injection, including active infections at the injection site, previous hypersensitivity to triamcinolone, and active tuberculosis or systemic fungal infection 2
