Osimertinib-Associated Cardiac Toxicities

Primary Cardiac Toxicities

  • Osimertinib increases QTc in a dose-dependent manner and interacts with other QT-prolonging medications, according to the European Society for Medical Oncology 1, 2, 3, 4

Contraindications and High-Risk Populations

  • The American Heart Association recommends that patients with a mean resting QTc >470 msec should not be treated with osimertinib, due to the increased risk of cardiac arrhythmias 1, 2, 3, 4
  • The European Society of Cardiology suggests that concomitant medications known to prolong QT interval should be discontinued or substituted before initiating osimertinib, to minimize the risk of cardiac toxicity 1, 2, 3, 4

Mandatory Monitoring Requirements

  • The National Comprehensive Cancer Network recommends minimizing concurrent QT-prolonging medications by substituting alternatives when possible, to reduce the risk of osimertinib-associated cardiac toxicity 1, 2, 3, 4
