Albendazole Treatment Guidelines for Parasitic Infections

Administration and Efficacy

• The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends albendazole dosing of 7.5 mg/kg twice daily for microsporidiosis until immune reconstitution, as stated in the MMWR Recommendations and Reports 1, 2
• For treatment courses longer than 14 days, the Infectious Diseases Society of America recommends monitoring for hepatotoxicity and leukopenia, and notes that absorption can be improved by administering with fatty meals 3, 4
