• The European Respiratory Society recommends loratadine or cetirizine as preferred antihistamines during breastfeeding, as they have been most extensively studied 1
• Antihistamines may theoretically reduce milk production, though this has not been demonstrated clinically with cetirizine, according to the European Respiratory Society guidelines 1

Important Caveats

• In moderate renal impairment, the cetirizine dose should be halved, as recommended by the British Journal of Dermatology 2
• Cetirizine should be avoided entirely in severe renal impairment, according to the British Journal of Dermatology 2
