Binge Eating Disorder Treatment with Lisdexamfetamine
Clinical Overview and Indication
- Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is characterized by recurrent episodes of consuming large amounts of food at least once weekly for 3 months, accompanied by a sense of loss of control, without compensatory behaviors seen in bulimia nervosa, and affects individuals of all genders, who are at risk of developing obesity 1
Place in Therapy
- The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that BED is associated with the development of obesity 1
- Psychotherapy, particularly cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), is recommended as first-line treatment for BED, and Lisdexamfetamine should be considered when patients prefer medication over psychotherapy, have not responded adequately to psychotherapy alone, or have comorbid obesity 2
