Pregabalin and Tamoxifen Interaction

Introduction to Pregabalin and Tamoxifen Safety

  • The National Comprehensive Cancer Network recommends avoiding strong CYP2D6 inhibitors (paroxetine, fluoxetine, bupropion, duloxetine) with tamoxifen, as they can reduce tamoxifen efficacy 1, 3, 4
  • Mild CYP2D6 inhibitors (sertraline, citalopram, venlafaxine, escitalopram) are preferred alternatives when antidepressants are needed with tamoxifen 1, 3, 4

Clinical Application for Cancer Pain Management

  • The National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines list pregabalin and gabapentin as anticonvulsant coanalgesics for neuropathic pain management in patients on tamoxifen 1, 2, 3
  • Pregabalin has been shown to relieve neuropathic cancer-related pain effectively, particularly in cases resistant to opioids 1, 2, 3
