Treatment of Male Genital Yeast Infection with Fluconazole

Alternative Treatment Options

  • For patients who fail initial single-dose therapy or have recurrent infections, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and other relevant guideline societies recommend considering repeating fluconazole 150 mg every 72 hours for 2-3 total doses, as extrapolated from severe vulvovaginal candidiasis guidelines, with a moderate strength of evidence 1
  • The Infectious Diseases Society of America suggests evaluating patients for predisposing factors such as diabetes, immunosuppression, or partner treatment needs, although the strength of evidence is low due to limited studies 2
