Administration of Glutathione with Myers' Cocktail
Special Considerations
- In patients with kidney disease, caution is warranted as high-dose parenteral glutamine (a precursor to glutathione) is contraindicated in critically ill patients with acute kidney injury or chronic kidney disease 1
- Electrolyte abnormalities are common in patients with kidney dysfunction and should be closely monitored when administering intravenous therapies 2
Practical Administration
- The stability of the mixture of glutathione with Myers' cocktail should be considered, as glutathione can be unstable in certain solutions 3
Monitoring
- Assess for changes in electrolyte balance, particularly in patients with pre-existing conditions 2
