Salbutamol Intoxication Management

Clinical Manifestations and Diagnosis

  • The American Heart Association recommends that patients with salbutamol intoxication be monitored for arrhythmias, including contractions ventriculares prematuras, taquicardia supraventricular, and in severe cases, colapso hemodinámico, with associated hypokalemia being a significant risk factor 1
  • Patients with pre-existing cardiopatía estructural have a higher risk of developing fibrilación auricular or taquicardia supraventricular, emphasizing the need for cautious management and close monitoring 2

Diagnostic Evaluation

  • The American College of Cardiology suggests that electrocardiograma continuo and electrocardiograma de reposo be performed to detect taquicardia, arritmias, and cambios isquémicos in patients with salbutamol intoxication 1
  • Monitoring of signos vitales, including frecuencia cardíaca, presión arterial, frecuencia respiratoria, and saturación de oxígeno, is crucial in the initial evaluation and ongoing management of patients with salbutamol intoxication 3

Patient Management

  • The American Heart Association recommends that patients with salbutamol intoxication receive medidas de soporte, including reposición de potasio, to prevent hypokalemia-related complications, such as arritmias and parálisis 1
  • Close monitoring of frecuencia cardíaca is essential, especially in patients with cardiopatía estructural or ancianos, to promptly identify and manage potential arritmias 3
