Ibuprofen Use in Infants and Children

Minimum Approved Age

  • The pediatric guidelines set the minimum approved age for ibuprofen at 6 months for any indication. [1][2]

Safety and Efficacy Evidence in Younger Infants

  • No adequate safety or efficacy data exist for the use of ibuprofen in infants younger than 6 months, indicating that its use in this age group is not supported by current evidence. 1
  • For children 6 months and older, the standard dosing is 10 mg/kg per dose administered every 6–8 hours, with a maximum daily limit of 40 mg/kg. 1
