Dosage and Administration

  • The recommended dosage of clotrimazol for superficial fungal infections is 1-2% cream applied 1-2 times a day for 7-14 days for superficial skin infections 1
  • For extensive or resistant infections, treatment may need to be extended up to 10-14 days 2

Treatment of Specific Infections

  • For mild oral candidiasis, clotrimazol 10 mg lozenges 5 times a day for 7-14 days are recommended 3
  • For moderate to severe oral candidiasis, fluconazol 100-200 mg orally daily for 7-14 days is recommended 3

Efficacy and Considerations

  • The cure rate with topical clotrimazol is approximately 80-90% in patients who complete treatment 2
  • Clotrimazol is as effective as other topical azoles and superior to nystatin for the treatment of superficial fungal infections 2

Special Populations

  • In complicated infections or patients with predisposing factors, longer treatment or systemic therapy should be considered 2

Follow-up

  • Response to treatment should be evaluated after completing the 7-14 day regimen 2
  • If there is no improvement after complete treatment or rapid recurrence, reevaluation of diagnosis, underlying predisposing factors, and possible drug resistance should be considered 2, 3
