Management of Ganglion Cysts on Fingers

Follow-up Protocol

  • Physical examination with or without ultrasound every 6 to 12 months for 1 to 2 years is recommended to ensure stability, as suggested by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network 1
  • If the cyst increases in size during follow-up, further evaluation is warranted, according to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network 1
  • If the cyst remains stable after the observation period, routine screening is appropriate, as recommended by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network 1
  • Treatment should be considered if the cyst continues to grow after the observation period, as indicated by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network 1

Diagnosis and Management of Ganglion Cysts

Imaging and Diagnostic Techniques

  • Ultrasound is appropriate for confirming the fluid-filled nature of the cyst and distinguishing it from solid masses, as recommended by the American College of Radiology 2
  • MRI is typically reserved for suspected occult ganglion cysts or when there's concern about solid tumors, according to Praxis Medical Insights 3
